It gives basic information about the electromagnetic fields that are generated during the MRI diagnostic procedure, followed by a description of the biological effects of those fields on humans. It concludes with a discussion of the safety issues related to MRI use in clinical practice, highlighting the existing MRI standards and guidelines. Key words: magnetic resonance imaging, biological effects of electromagnetic radiation, MRI standards, safety guidelines.
