In this paper the immunosuppressed model of NIH mice induced by cyclophosphamide (CY) was used to study the immunoregulation of qigong waiqi.

The results are as follows:

(1) The thymus index of CY group was obviously lower than the normal control group (P<0.001), but the thymus index of CY + qigong waiqi group was significantly higher than that of the CY group (P<0.05). There was no difference between normal control group and CY + qigong waiqi group (P>0.05). It is shown that qigong waiqi could alleviate the injury of thymus induced by CY.

(2) The antibody production in CY + qigong waiqi group immunized with SRBC was obviously increased as compared with the CY group (P<0.05), but the antibody level was obviously lower than the normal control group (P<0.001). It was revealed that qigong waiqi could protect partially B lymphocyte from CY suppression, and increase the antibody production.

(3) NK cell is a killer cell. It can kill the tumor cell. We found that qigong waiqi could raise the activity of NK cell of the immunosuppressed mice. The lysis rate of CY + qigong waiqi group was 21.7% and was higher than that of CY group (13%).

This paper showed that qigong waiqi could improve the immune function of the immunosuppressed mice induced by CY. Qigong waiqi could alleviate the injury of the thymus, protect partially B lymphocyte from CY suppression, increase the antibody production and raise the activity of NK cell.
