Objective: To try to find out whether Qigong has beneficial effects on the inspiring of adolescent intelligence.
Methods: Subjects came from the no.8 Middle School of Beijing. Students from Class 2 Grade 2 of the senior high school and Class 3 Grade 2 of the junior high school were included in the Qigong group. And students from Class 3 grade 2 of the senior high school and Class 2 Grade 2 of the junior high school were included in the control group.
Students of the Qigong group were scheduled to practice Qigong twice a day, 18 minutes each time (including 3 minutes’ practice of static Qigong) and the study lasted for 6 months. However, the method of how to practice Qigong was not discussed in the paper.
Before and after the dirigation, tests to evaluate the ability of concentration, memory and ideation were applied to the Qigong group and the control group.
Loading test of work capacity scale was applied to evaluate the concentration.
Tests of figures, words and association were applied to evaluate the memory
Mental arithmetic test was applied to evaluate the ideation.
Results: The results of the ability test on concentration show very significant difference (P<0.001) between the results before and after dirigation among the same Qigong group students. And the same results as above are between the qigong group (after dirigation) and the control group (P<0.001).
The results of the test on the ability of memory show very significant difference (P<0.001) between the results before and after dirigation among the same Qigong group students. And the results between Qigong group (after dirigation) and control group also show very significant differences (P<0.001)..
The results of ideation test show no difference between the results before and after dirigation.of Qigong group
Conclusion: The dirigation of reported Qigong has beneficial effects on the ability of concentration and memory. Whether Qigong is beneficial to the ability of ideation we can’t draw a conclusion. Perhaps it is because that the ability of ideation is too complex to be tested by this study thoroughly.
