To observe the effect of guiding Congenital-Qi Qigong in treating arthromyodynia.
Methods:
30 subjects including 16 males and 14 females came from the outpatients during 1989~1992. Their ages ranged from 23 to 60. The length of the disease course was between 6 months to 20 years. 30 cases included 24 cases of rheumatoid arthritis, 3 cases of rheumatic arthritis and 3 cases of hypertrophic arthritis. All the subjects had such symptoms as pains, tumescence, numbness, toughness and heaviness of the joint, bones and muscles; the deformity and flexion- extension disability of the joint; the muscle atrophy.
All subjects were asked practicing Qigong together, three times per day, 40 minutes a time. The post-feeling and effect of practicing were noted every 10 days.
This kind of Qigong was made up of 5 stages. The first two stages were to guide Qi through the Conception Vessel. The last two stages were to guide Qi through the Governing Vessel. The middle stage was the interim of the above two. The two essentials of practice were that letting the Qi be and keeping on doing it
Results:
11 cases was cured (all symptom disappeared, joint function was in normal); 8 cases showed obvious effect (symptom ameliorated distinctly, joint function was improved greatly); 10 cases showed some effect (symptom ameliorated, joint function was improved); 1 case show no effect (symptom and joint function were the same as before)
11 of 16 subjects who came to the last two stages was cured; the other 5 cases had obvious effect.
3 of 6 subjects who came to the middle stage showed obvious effect, the other 3 cases had some effect.
The other 8 cases were just at the first two stages.
Conclusions:
It seems that practicing guiding Congenital-Qi Qigong is a good choice for the Arthromyodynia.
