1. Object

67 retired people from departments of the provincial government . (male 40, female 27) age from 60 to 77.
2. Parameters

Heart index (HI), stroke volume (SV), stroke volume index (SVI), cardiac output (CO), cardiac index (CI), total peripheral resistance (TPR), compliance(C), stroke work (SW), stroke work index (SWI), heart rate (HR), blood pressure (BP), etc.

3. Method

Blood flow was measured by 2k-3 impedance blood flower and recovered by SC-16 light recorder made in Shanghai.

Blood pressure was measured by electronic sphygmomanometer made in Japan.

The first measurements were taken in January,1988 and the second measurements were taken July,1988. Both measurements were taken by the same operators and through the same instruments.

All data were processed, anslyzed and printed automatically by personnel computer(MD1500).

4. RESULTS

The effects of DYYSG are acquired by the adjustments of posture, regulation of mental activities and qi. Under the guidance of the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, which includes the theory of the zang and fu-organs, and the channel and collateral, qi was conducted by finer lifting and by moving limbs, and also by the method of rubbing and pressing the acupuncture point and by music.

These Qigong dirigation continued for 6 months, twice a day in the morning and evening for 30 minutes. After six months, the results of Qigong dirigation are as follows:

The changes of 12 parameters compared with self-control are significantly different.

Males: stroke work index (SWI), cardiae index (CI), compliance (C) obviously increase (p < 0.05-0.001), stroke volume index (SVI), cardiane output (CO) increase (p < 0.1), total peripheral resistance (TPR), systolic pressure, diastolic in pressure obviously decrease (p < 0.05-0.001). Only 3 parsmetere, stroke volume (SV), heart rate (HR) and stroke work (SW) have no obvious difference.

Females: Excerpt HR, HI, SV, SW, CO, CI, C obviously increase (p < 0.05-0.001). SVI, SVW increase (p < 0.1). TPR and systolic pressure, diastolic pressure show remarkable decrease (p < 0.010-0.001).

13 cases in 17 hypertensive persons showed in beneficial effect. This study provides that DYYSG is obviously effective to improve Cardiac function of senile persons, especially for female.
