History: During the Jing dynasty, 1700 years ago, a venerable Buddhist Dao An, inspired by wild geese, formed Da Yen qigong. In the 19th century Yang Mei Jun's grandfather learned Da Yen from a monk. At age 70, he taught his 13-year-old granddaughter in secret. Master Yang has practiced continuously for over 90 years. A living example of the benefits of Da Yen a national treasure, she was known to leap several feet off the ground at age 95. At 100, she could sit so still her strongest student couldn’t move her arm. Master Hui Lia (Shi Mu) learned Da Yen directly from Master Yang in Beijing and has been teaching it at Wen Wu School in El Cerrito, California since 1987.

First set (64 movements) takes four months to learn. Instruction includes stretching, warm-ups, self-massage, and meditation. Da Yen, as taught by Shi Mu, emphasizes personal practice to enhance one's own health. Second Set (±C movements) is for advanced students.

Through practice, many students heal physical problems. A sense of community, fostered by group study, tea-time discussions, and bi-annual retreats, promotes optimal health.

It is uncertain what involvement Master Yang will choose. Just to be in the presence of a grand master of such stature will be an honor.
