Taoist Qigong and TCM -- Foundation for the Breast Cancer Prevention Project Author: Lu N Affiliation: American Taoist Healing Center, Inc., New York, New York, USA Conference/Journal: 2nd World Congress Qigong Date published: 1998 Other: Pages: 45 , Word Count: 273 Objective: To provide Western women with a breast cancer prevention program based on the centuries-old, self healing theories of Taoist Qigong and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Western medicine offers little in the way of prevention. The American Cancer Society says, To date, knowledge about risk factors has not translated into practical ways to prevent breast cancer.' From the TCM perspective, the condition is understood as originating in unbalanced or stagnated qi before it manifests in the physical body. Within this context, there is much TCM and its meridian theories can offer to help prevent this devastating illness. The Breast Cancer Prevention Project (BCPP) is unique. It is based on TCM’s understanding of the cancer/emotion link as discussed in ancient works like the Wai Ke Zheng Zong by Dr. Chen. BCPP's goal is to maintain the body's self-healing mechanisms and address breast cancer root cause by strengthening the body's overall Qi. It is designed to focus on healing the meridians that affect most women's health: Liver and Stomach. If Qi stagnates in either or both, there is a risk d developing cancer. A five-part program, the BCPP includes Wu Ming Meridian Therapy, a series of unique Qigong movements to stretch meridians and keep Qi flowing -- especially through the six meridians that run in the breast; checklists of lifestyle habits to understand where there are opportunities to rebalance Qi; instructions in the Five Element theory and how the five major organs interact for good health; a self monitoring heart to gauge healing progress, and an 'eating for healing' plan of 20 foods and 15 herbs with healing properties regularly used in TCM treatments.
